Mikkaka Overstreet is a senior consultant at Education Northwest. Previously, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education at East Carolina University, her research focused on exploring intersections of literacy, identity, and learning, as well as preservice and in-service teacher learning, particularly as related to culturally responsive pedagogical practices. Recent publications include Reading Horizons, The Journal of Language & Literacy Education, NASPA Journal About Women and Gender in Higher Education, and College Teaching.

Duties: Teaches courses in elementary and reading program areas. Assist in program enhancement. Serve the profession at the college, university, and national level and contribute to the field through research and scholarship.

2015-2017   Clinical Faculty and Director, Minority Teacher Recruitment Project

Early Childhood and Elementary Education Department, University of Louisville

Duties: As clinical faculty, taught courses in elementary education, served on college committees, and advised undergraduate and graduate students, including serving on two dissertation committees. In addition to faculty duties in the department of early childhood and elementary education, as the director of the Minority Teacher Recruitment Project (MTRP), oversaw the daily operations of the MTRP office and staff, managed the program budget and worked with various partners to recruit students of color into teacher education programs.
