Dr. Mikkaka loves to write. She has published a children’s book, Severus Comes Home, about her beloved pet snake. She plans to turn the book into a series and is currently seeking representation for the Severus series, as well as for a young adult novel. Severus and Dr. Mikkaka love visiting schools and community organizations.

Whether it's a single classroom or a school assembly, Dr. Mikkaka uses her drama and storytelling background to engage students with literature. In addition to her own stories, Dr. Mikkaka has a repertoire of multicultural folktales and funny scary stories that she delivers in an interactive style sure to keep the crowd involved. With her sidekick, Severus Snake, Dr. Mikkaka integrates science, literacy, and the arts. She also can provide accompanying lesson plans, resources, and follow-up.
